It's a girl!

I just realized it's been three weeks since I last wrote anything here. But I have a good reason.

Our little girl was born on May 24 at 8:42 p.m. She weighed 8 pounds, 2 ounces and measured 21 inches. Her arrival followed:

- E's water breaking at 1 in the morning (after we had been up for 18 hours)
- 19 hours of labor, including three hours of pushing
- An emergency c-section (because the baby's head was stuck)

Our families waited patiently in the waiting room until midnight to meet our little one. That gave E time to go through recovery and spend some good quality nursing time with her before everyone barged in. By the time everyone left and we were able to settle in for some sleep, we had been awake for 43 hours. It was a very exhausting day.

Needless to say, given the gender makeup on both sides of our family, our little girl surprised a lot of people. Probably not for the last time.

And I've also learned that there are two kinds of people in the world: those who have kids and those who don't. Those who don't have kids ask, "Why haven't you written anything in your blog yet?" Those who have kids say nothing because they know that a newborn can be exhausting.
